A Brief History of the SSDC
More than 7 years ago a couple of young MBA's from Tulane's Freeman Business School set about making a place where talented, interesting young New Orleanians could meet each other, relax and enjoy a nice beverage...
Joe "Who's Your Daddy" Cashman and I founded the Sunset Social Drinking Club so that we could maintain our friendships and make new ones as we entered into our first New Orleans' summer seven years ago. The result has been better than we could have imagined. News of the SSDC has spread quietly, but consistently. Our membership has expanded on a weekly and monthly basis and new, fresh faces continue to add renewed vigor to our meetings. Membership continues to grow as young professionals across the Greater New Orleans region recognize the enjoyment and potential of the SSDC and membership.
Our past meetings have been very exciting. Members will recall "Dominion" (the official SSDC card game) sweeping our imaginations (and our senses of fair play!) our unexpected (but greatly enjoyed) private jam session by "jazzists" John and Todd; those challenging political discussions led by our sergeant-of-arms "Mad Dog" Madison (a.k.a. Ivory); the CD-release party at Snug Harbor for John "Jazz Man" Ellis; the Mr. Legs Contest at Planet Hollywood; our annual tubing trips down the Bogachita River; Our fantastic Re-New Year's Extravaganza; and, of course, who can forget the annual "F#&K YOU IT'S MINE" Holiday Party?!
Our newer lineup includes exclusive parties at the local hot spots like Club 360, Ampersand, Foundation Room, House of Blues, Monkey Hill, and others...
Also many thanks go out to the community leaders and corporate sponsors who help keep the SSDC dues free. Special recogntion goes out to the Abita Brewing Company for their long-standing support for over 7 years!
Of course, we cannot forget that SSDC is not just about our Sunday meetings. The true treasures of SSDC lie in the expanded friendships that continue to blossom as we move forward. It is those SSDCers who meet up during the week to catch a show, play a round of golf, hit the billiard tables, or just chat -- these are the people that make the SSDC the success that it has become. I encourage all SSDC members to share in the exciting opportunities that our fine city has to offer -- and to do it together.
So sip away, seek out potential members, and enjoy good drinks, good company, and a great sunset!!
Cheers!!
